Wunmi, the widow of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, speaks out about her struggles following his death and the tensions within their family regarding his assets.
“Sometimes I feel like God cheated my husband; he didn’t have to die,” Wunmi said. “We no longer feel safe, and I receive death threats literally every day in my DMs. It’s reached a point where I either speak up or die in silence.”
The late singer, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed away in September 2023 under mysterious circumstances, prompting investigations and widespread public outcry.
Since Mohbad’s death, Wunmi has faced intense scrutiny, with accusations circulating within his family and among his fanbase. She accused her father-in-law of trying to control Mohbad’s properties and making derogatory comments about their son, Liam.
“My father-in-law wanted to be in control of my husband’s properties and would go to great lengths to make my life difficult,” she stated. “He was the one who restricted the marriage, yet he seemed the happiest during the wedding. He has been harsh towards Liam as well. He actually said that my son has bow legs, claiming they don’t have that in their family and that Liam’s face looks older than it should. He even went so far as to say that Mohbad wanted to throw our son into the lagoon under the Third Mainland Bridge.”
Wunmi also addressed the ongoing issues regarding the DNA paternity test that her father-in-law has been insisting on. “I’ve made it clear that I’m willing to do the DNA test, but he insists that once the results are in, I shouldn’t make them public.”
