A dispute may be unfolding within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a conflicting court ruling regarding the party’s South-South zonal congress.
Justice Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, refused to issue an ex parte order to halt the congress scheduled for today in Calabar.
The request was filed by Desmond Owei and Osahon Okonedo as plaintiffs, with PDP National Chairman Iliya Damagum, PDP South-South National Vice Chairman Dan Orbih, and the Peoples Democratic Party listed as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd defendants, respectively.
The plaintiffs sought to prevent the defendants from convening and conducting the South-South Zonal Elective Congress in Calabar.
However, the judge rejected their request, instead instructing both parties to maintain the status quo as of February 20, 2025. The case has been adjourned until March 4, 2025, for a hearing on the pending motion on notice.
