ZIMBABWE head coach Michael Nees is confident his side can get a result against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Uyo in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier later this month.

Nees and his team will face the Super Eagles on March 25 in a matchday 6 qualifying Group C clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Their first meeting in Zimbabwe’s adopted home ground in Kigali, Rwanda in November 2023 ended 1-1, Kelechi Iheanacho equalising for the Super Eagles.

“Everybody knows Nigeria are better than their current position and our positions are similar,” Nees, a 57-year-old German, told Brila FM.

“For Nigeria to turn things around they have to perform, but I believe they are beatable in Uyo.”

After four rounds of fixtures in the qualifying campaign, the Super Eagles are fifth in the group with three points, while Zimbabwe are bottom with two points.

The Super Eagles have drawn their two home games so far in the qualifying campaign — 1-1 draws with Lesotho and South Africa.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles are unbeaten against the Brave Warriors of Zimbabwe in their last seven clashes, recording four wins and three draws.

Zimbabwe’s only win against Nigeria was in 1981, a 2-0 victory in a friendly match.
