SINGER Reekado Banks has stirred conversation among fans with a recent post on X, where he claimed that certain individuals within the Nigerian music industry are hindering the growth of promising talents.

In the post shared on March 25, the singer stated that these individuals are either clueless or demonic, yet they somehow end up with the brightest talents, only to make poor decisions that harm their careers.
“One day, I’ll take an interview to talk about someone in the corners of the entertainment industry who’s either absolutely CLUELESS or plain DEMONIC. Somehow, the brightest budding talents fall into their laps, and through either cluelessness or pure demonic activities, they agree to policies that effectively slow these talents down and, for some, frustrate them out of pursuing their dreams. One day…” he wrote.
Reekado Banks’ comments may not surprise those familiar with the ongoing issues between artists and labels in Nigerian music. Several talents have accused their management of harmful practices.
While fans may speculate about whom his post refers to, it is unlikely to be connected to his previous label, Mavin Records, under which he rose to fame.
In a previous interview, Reekado Banks emphasized that he left Mavin Records on good terms, praising Don Jazzy, the label’s founder.
He clarified that his departure was amicable and that he was grateful for the support he received. “That man took me from absolutely nothing. I wonder why anyone would think it wasn’t amicable. The end of the contract came, I wanted to leave, and he (Don Jazzy) gave me his blessings,” Reekado said.
While Reekado Banks’ split from Mavin Records was amicable, his case is an exception in the Nigerian music industry, which has witnessed many bitter disputes between artists and their labels.
