THE Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of police tactical units to the troubled areas in response to the wave of violent attacks and killings that have affected several communities in Plateau State since March 28, 2025.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the Police Force’s commitment to restoring peace, protecting residents, and ensuring justice for victims of the attacks.

The IGP specifically directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to lead and coordinate the intervention.

The deployment includes elite tactical teams, modern surveillance drones, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), units of the Police Mobile Force, helicopters, and specialized squads from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

According to the statement, these resources will be strategically positioned to carry out targeted operations aimed at halting the persistent violence in Bokkos Local Government Area and neighboring communities.

Within a week, over 50 people have reportedly been killed in coordinated attacks across five communities, with more than 300 houses set ablaze by suspected herdsmen.

Governor Caleb Muftwang condemned the violence yesterday, revealing that bandits have taken over 64 communities in the state.

“These same communities were previously attacked in 2023 but managed to rebuild,” the governor said. “For instance, the Ruwi community lost 17 people in 2023 but came back stronger, demonstrating the resilience of our people.”
