SEVENTEEN individuals abducted from Niger State have been successfully rescued in Kaduna by the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The victims were formally handed over to the Niger State Government at a ceremony held at the Police Command Headquarters in Minna.
The victims, taken on March 3, 2025, from Kango and Wuloto villages in Munya Local Government Area, were received by top government officials.
During the event, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba expressed deep appreciation to the security agencies for their dedication and coordinated efforts in securing the release of the captives.
Garba acknowledged the persistent challenges of banditry and kidnapping in Munya and Shiroro LGAs but noted a significant decline in such incidents over the past two years, attributing the progress to strengthened government actions and security partnerships.
“Our administration remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety and well-being of every citizen. The noticeable drop in criminal activities, especially in high-risk areas like Munya and Shiroro, is the outcome of strategic collaboration with security agencies,” he said.
He also assured that the state government would provide medical care and psychosocial support to aid the victims’ recovery and reintegration into society.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, who officially handed over the rescued individuals, described the operation as a success driven by “non-kinetic” approaches, highlighting the vital role of intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation.
“This rescue mission is a testament to effective synergy between the police and the Office of the National Security Adviser. It reflects our united commitment to ending kidnapping and restoring peace across our communities,” Elleman stated.
Of the 17 rescued, 15 were reported to be from a single extended family, making the reunion especially emotional for their loved ones who had been awaiting their return.
The handover event drew attendance from senior government officials, security personnel, and relatives of the victims—many of whom expressed heartfelt gratitude and relief.
This operation marks a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against kidnapping and banditry in Niger State and has further reinforced public trust in the capabilities of Nigeria’s security forces to safeguard lives and property.
