Afrobeat star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has opened up about his past friendship with convicted Nigerian fraudster and Instagram socialite Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
In a recent podcast interview, the singer acknowledged knowing Hushpuppi personally but maintained that he had no idea about his involvement in fraud.
“Hushpuppi is coming out soon. He lived life. To me, it is not worth it to be locked up. But let me not make excuses for them. Some people are happy to ball for five years and that is it,” Davido said.
The 30BG crooner also touched on the harsh realities of life in Nigeria, which he believes often push people toward crime.
“In Nigeria, there is a kind of hardship you would face and you will be like, you know what? Hey God, let me ball for two years then I am good,” he explained.
Davido expressed sympathy for Hushpuppi, “People are like that. My prayers go out to him (Hushpuppi). He’s my friend. I just see him around, I never really knew what he was doing. But he lived the good life.”
