THE Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation following the alleged suicide of one of its officers, Inspector Maxwell Zubu.
The incident reportedly occurred yesterday in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt.
Zubu was said to have been serving as a security aide to a former Chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area at the time of the incident.
As of the time of reporting, details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain unclear.
Findings indicate that the matter was reported to the police post on Eagle Island, which operates under the Azikiwe Police Division at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu in Port Harcourt.
A police source, who requested anonymity, confirmed that officers from the Azikiwe Division visited the scene as part of an initial investigation.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident but withheld further details, noting that an investigation is underway.
“We have commenced an investigation to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the incident,” she stated.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for a more thorough probe.”
