THE Federal Government has announced the completion of repair works on the runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, with the airport set to reopen tomorrow.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed the development today noting that the project was completed ahead of the initial May 6 deadline.
“Dear compatriots, we worked tirelessly to meet the deadline for the runway repairs at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and completed the work well ahead of schedule. The airport will now reopen for operations tomorrow, April 28, 2025,” Keyamo shared via his X handle.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had earlier announced the temporary closure of the airport on April 19 to carry out critical runway maintenance.
In its statement, FAAN revealed that a sudden and major rupture had occurred on the asphalt surface of a critical section of the runway, prompting the urgent need for repairs between April 22 and May 6, 2025.
“In line with Nigerian civil aviation regulations, FAAN has closed the runway during this period to ensure the safety of passengers,” the statement added.
The authority emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and the ongoing modernization of airport facilities.
