Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has stated that while he has no regrets about working with the President, he would decline the opportunity to return if offered again.
Baba-Ahmed resigned from his position in April, citing the administration’s lack of commitment to fixing Nigeria.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed expressed his disappointment with the government’s performance, particularly in addressing poverty and insecurity in the North.
“I didn’t see that fire, that commitment, zeal to fix the country that has been wrecked. I saw instead a country that is just getting worse.”
Baba-Ahmed also revealed that he declined a personal meeting with Tinubu, stating that he would have told him things he might not want to hear, including advising him not to seek re-election in 2027.
Instead, he suggested that Tinubu should support a younger, more energetic candidate from within his party.
The former adviser expressed regret that he was unable to contribute meaningfully to the administration, stating, “I didn’t do any job. I was supposed to be adviser on political matters to the President… but I didn’t do any advising.”
