A tragic accident at the Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State has claimed the lives of four seminarians and left nine others injured.

According to a statement from Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, the incident occurred at the Ikwette community, located at the base of the Obudu Ranch Resort hill.

“The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of four lives and injuries to nine others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said.

The accident involved a vehicle carrying thirteen seminarians, with initial findings indicating that brake failure may have caused the crash.

Gill explained that the victims were seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Diocese, who were on a tour led by a Reverend Father. The incident happened as they descended from the hill after completing their visit to the ranch.

Extending its condolences, the Cross River State Government reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety of visitors to Obudu Ranch Resort and other tourist destinations across the state.

“Safety remains our top priority at the Ranch Resort and throughout the state. We are currently reviewing existing safety protocols to better protect all visitors,” the government added in the statement released on Sunday.

The statement also urged tourists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and to strictly follow safety guidelines when visiting or departing from the resort.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out once again to all those affected by this tragedy,” the statement concluded.
