SUSPECTED Fulani herdsmen reportedly received a ransom of ₦5 million and food supplies before releasing Azubuike Bright, who was kidnapped in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Bright was abducted last Friday night while stepping out to buy food. He was held captive until around 9 p.m. on Sunday, when the ransom and food items were delivered to the kidnappers by his family.

The abductors initially demanded ₦50 million for his release and issued threats, warning the family to prepare for his funeral if the demand wasn’t met.

According to human rights activist and Coordinator of the Safe City Project, Comrade Harrison Gwamnishu, who confirmed Bright’s release in a statement dated May 11, 2025, the kidnappers are still at large.

“At about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, I witnessed his release after ₦5,000,000 and other items were handed over to the kidnappers,” Gwamnishu said. “The victim reported that all his abductors were Fulani men hiding in the bush.”

He called on the government and security agencies to take urgent action against the rising wave of kidnappings in the state, which he claimed are often carried out by armed men posing as herdsmen.

Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
