AWARD-winning historian, filmmaker, and archivist, Nze Ed Keazor, is the new Director of the Nsibidi Institute, the historical research, filmmaking, and curation arm of the Nsibidi Foundation.

With over 30 years of experience in various fields, Keazor, also a vocal culture advocate, has assumed his new role since the 2nd of June 2025.

A Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Keazor’s notable curatorial projects include the First Bank and TotalEnergies mobile museums. His rich film credits include January 15, 1970, a documentary on Nigerian Civil War. Most recently, he served as Consultant Historian on the acclaimed documentary, The Decolonisation of Africa, which delves deep into the continent’s complex history, shedding light on the slave trade, colonialism, and the courageous fight for liberation led by African leaders and citizens alike. It features insights from prominent figures such as the Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, H.E Joaquim Chissano, Lord David Owen, Baroness Chalker, and the late Chief Buthelezi, and many more. The documentary offers a unique perspective on the many layers of Africa’s journey towards self-governance.

He has also consulted on Journey of the Beats, a 10-part documentary series produced by creative entrepreneur and current Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC, Ojinaka Obi Asika, which explores the origin and evolution of Afrobeats and black music.

In 2015, he received an award from the African Society of Cambridge University for his contributions to African history.

Expressing his gratitude to the Board for entrusting him with the leadership of the Institute, which has been dormant for five years, Keazor revealed that a robust annual programme of events, research, and digital tools would soon be unveiled to the public.
