Award-winning rapper Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, is not only a talented artist and actor but also one of Nigeria’s most prominent celebrities when it comes to activism.
The multi-talented entertainer firmly dismissed any notion of venturing into politics, emphasizing that he doesn’t feel compelled to take it upon himself to set Nigeria right. When asked about a possible political career, Falz responded decisively, “Politics, ke? No, it’s a big no. What’s my business with politics?”
He expressed, “I can never become a politician. I don’t think I’d ever be able to because being a politician requires certain traits that I don’t possess—many of which are negative. Even some normal traits, like being patient and always being ‘on,’ I can’t do it.”
Although Falz’s outspoken nature and consistent advocacy on national issues have earned him admiration from young Nigerians, he emphasizes that his involvement in activism is driven by deep compassion rather than political ambition.
Falz stated in 2023, “Compassion—I just care, and I cannot witness everything happening around me without saying or doing something about it. It’s just how I’m built. Nobody is forcing me to act; it comes naturally.”
As a trained lawyer and the son of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), Falz continually uses his platform to address issues such as police brutality, bad governance, and injustice. Nonetheless, he maintains that activism and politics are not inherently linked.
