The Coroner’s Court investigating the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has concluded that there was no foul play or homicide involved in the case.

On Friday, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi delivered her findings at the Ikorodu Magistrate Court in Lagos, stating that the singer’s death did not result from any criminal act.

However, the coroner determined that the actions of auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered an injection to Mohbad without a doctor’s prescription, were both unlawful and professionally negligent.

The court recommended that the nurse be prosecuted for gross negligence and illegal medical practice. Citing Section 29 of the Lagos State Coroner Law, Magistrate Shotobi urged the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to pursue legal action against the unlicensed nurse.

Additionally, the coroner called for further investigation into a previous petition filed by Mohbad against Naira Marley and Sam Larry, in which he alleged assault and intimidation—issues that re-emerged during the inquest.

The court also criticized Mohbad’s father for hastily burying him without insisting on an autopsy and questioned the singer’s wife for not seeking timely medical attention when he fell ill.

Furthermore, the coroner pointed out that social media influencers and content creators had misrepresented facts about the case during the proceedings, potentially undermining the integrity of the judicial process.

In conclusion, the coroner recommended broad reforms to improve healthcare service delivery and to strengthen law enforcement responses to protect citizens.
