ON Thursday, August 7, 2025, the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) Abuja Chapter, led by the Chairman, Ọmọọba Jerry Adesewo, paid a courtesy visit to the DG of National Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Obi Asika.
In his remarks, the DG Mr. Obi Asika emphasised the powerful role which the performing Arts play in shaping Nigeria’s creative economy — from digital storytelling to music, dance, and beyond.
The DG informed the delegates about the upcoming NAFEST 2025, which will be hosted by Enugu State in November. He further highlighted the importance of other flagship programmes of the council viz; Origins, ICE Hubs, the MEFA Event Centre, and the CLAP Initiative and their relevance to NANTAP and its members. He approved the allocation of an office space for NANTAP at NCAC headquarters in Abuja, and recommended regular interface and meetings with the association towards more collaborative efforts for the sector’s development.
Responding, Omooba Adesewo commended the DG for his transformative agenda aimed at digitising the culture and creative economy. He commended the DG for his vision for the sector and the initiation of regular meetings. He further intimated him of:
🔹Desired increased impact of performing arts on the Abuja Society
🔹 NCAC’s presence at NANTAP Abuja monthly Congress
🔹 The upcoming Abuja Performing Arts Summit by NANTAP Abuja Chapter
🔹 Request for an office in the building to serve as NANTAP Abuja secretariat.
In his contribution, Mr. Dotun Osunsanya (Member of NANTAP BoT) called for proper events coordination across Abuja and beyond, facilitating cultural exchanges between practitioners abroad & those in Africa, increased funding, and more collaborative opportunities within the industry.
Responding, the DG, Mr. Obi Asika welcomed the suggestions and informed NANTAP of available grant and capacity-building opportunities from the Ministry of Arts, Culture & Creative Economy, and affirmed support for an office space within the building.
