THE Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) is targeting a revenue of N550 billion to help the government transform the state.
Ayodele Adebayo, Director, Personal Income Tax, LIRS, addressed in Lagos yesterday, noting that the state’s population was growing, necessitating investment to develop and upgrade current facilities.
According to him, Lagos’ population growth has put a strain on local infrastructure and government budgets, as tax collection has lagged behind the boom.
He reaffirmed that Lagos is improving infrastructure to meet up with future expansion, citing the significant impact of people movement from neighboring states, which has resulted in population growth.
He stated that, in comparison to other states, Lagos had a large influx of people, making it highly vulnerable to a rapidly growing population. He called for responsible citizenship, as well as well-maintained roads, bridges, and public transportation that make commutes easier and improve commerce and quality of life.
He adds that there are projects all around the state that will assist the state maintain its status as a growing commercial destination.
He stated that government investment in infrastructure is the foundation for a successful economy, and he urged support for the government in order to enable changes that will pay off in private-sector investment and productivity growth.
He stated that the Service’s management has built an electronic platform as part of institutional reforms aimed at making tax payments more user-friendly.
