Aina shoots Fulham to first EPL win over Ajayi’s West Brom

FOUR Nigerian players were in action on Monday night as Fulham hosted West Brom in a Premier League clash at Craven Cottage.

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina was the outstanding one of the lot, scoring a scorcher as Fulham won 2-0, their first victory since their promotion to the top flight.

Aina outshone his Nigerian teammates Tosin Adarabioyo and Ademola Lookman, as well as West Brom’s Semi Ajayi, a fellow Super Eagle.

Former Chelsea star Aina made sure of the points for Fulham when he unleashed an unstoppable shot with his weaker left foot from the edge of the West Brom box in the 30th minute.

Bobby Reid had given Fulham the lead against their fellow promoted side four minutes earlier.

All the Nigerian players were decent on the night, Adarabioyo marshalling the Fulham defence while Lookman was bright on the left of the Fulham attack.

Despite the defeat, Ajayi also performed well, preventing Fulham from doing further damage.

Aina, Adarabioyo and Ajayi all played the full game while Lookman was taken off in the 90th minute.

Aina and Ajayi are in the Super Eagles squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone later in November.

Monday night’s win took Fulham out of the relegation zone to 17th place with four points from seven games.

West Brom are 18th with three points from seven games.
