NPFL: 3SC hold Rangers as frontrunners Rivers, Plateau win away

SHOOTING Stars Sports Club and Enugu Rangers played out a 1-1 draw in the star match of Wednesday’s Nigeria Professional Football League action.

At a packed Lekan Salami Stadium under the floodlights, visitors Rangers took the lead through Elijah Ani on the stroke of half-time.

The hosts equalised 11 minutes into the second half via Chinedu Enuademu as the night contest between the traditional giants ended in a stalemate.
Rangers are fifth in the table with 25 points, with 3SC seven places and five points behind.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, the top two sides Rivers United and Plateau United pulled off away wins to stay ahead of the chasing pack. Leaders Rivers United shocked Kano Pillars 1-0 in Kaduna, while second-placed Plateau United eased past their hosts Lobi Stars 2-0.

Nyima Nwagua struck in the 70th minute to give Rivers United the win and keep them on top of the table with 35 points from 16 matches.

Plateau United are one point behind and they owe their win at Lobi Stars to goals from Chimezie Izuchukwu in the first half and Albert Harry in the 90th minute.

In other NPFL clashes on Wednesday, MFM went away to Niger Tornadoes and snatched a 1-1 draw as Enyimba defeated Remo Stars 2-1 in Aba and Sunshine Stars beat their visitors Heartland 3-1.

The highest-scoring game of the day was Katsina United’s 4-1 win over Dakkada, while champions Akwa United beat Wikki Tourists 2-0 in Uyo.
