KELECHI Iheanacho came off the bench on Saturday to help Leicester City win their second straight Premier League game with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Leeds United at the King Power Stadium.
The Nigeria international replaced Jamie Vardy in the 61st minute and made an almost immediate impact, assisting Leicester City’s goal six minutes later.
Iheanacho exchanged passes with Harvey Barnes in the left channel and reversed the ball to the Englishman who slipped it home. The assist was Iheanacho’s fifth in 17 Premier League appearances this season.
The two other Super Eagles stars at Leicester City were also involved in the action, with Wilfred Ndidi playing the full game while new Nigeria international Ademola Lookman came on as a 61st minute substitute. All three are in Nigeria’s squad for the World Cup playoffs against Ghana later in March.
Leeds United, under their new boss Jesse Marsch, were a bit unlucky not to get at least a point from the contest, the side coming close to scoring on a number of occasions.
They produced a lively and energetic display at the King Power Stadium in Marsch’s first game in charge which showcased a change of shape from Marcelo Bielsa’s time.
Better finishing from Jack Harrison, Rodrigo, Junior Firpo and Raphinha would have helped Leeds United get at least a point as they sought to ease their relegation concerns, but all fluffed their opportunities.
Leicester rose up to 10th in the table, while Leeds remain two points above the bottom three, having played two games more than 18th-placed Burnley.
