WORRIED by a video where kegs of premium motor spirit (PMS) also known as petrol or fuel were distributed as souvenir a party that held in Lagos state on Friday, March 4, the state government has said that it would probe the distribution of the highly flammable material.
The state government made this known on Saturday, after the video had gone viral in the social space. On the keg the recently scarce product was an inscription that read: ‘Erelu Okin Foundation Installation Party March 4, 2022’, with a picture of the celebrant.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, in statement issued on Saturday, said the act using inflammable substance as souvenir is dangerous, adding that it could lead to loss of lives and property.
“The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a video showing kegs of petrol being handed out as souvenirs at an event Centre in Lagos. The video has gone viral on social media.
“The Lagos State government, through the Safety Commission, is investigating this matter and will ensure that all parties to this reprehensible action are made to account for it.
“There is no doubt that this action is dangerous and can lead to loss of lives and property. It is blatantly against all safety measures in such places.
“The safety of lives and properties of Lagosians and visitors remain a top priority to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
“We, therefore, advise that actions that can lead to loss of lives and properties be avoided,” the statement read in parts.
