CRISTIANO Ronaldo became offcially the most prolific player in football history on Saturday when he scored a hat-trick in Manchester United’s 3-2 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese superstar scored twice in the first half and late in the second half to take his career goals tally to 807, two more than Igor Biscan who held the official FIFA record for career goals.
The 37-year-old forward gave Manchester United the lead in the 12th minute with a stunning long-range effort, but Tottenham Hotspur were back on level terms through Harry Kane’s penalty in the 35th minute.
Ronaldo put United back in the lead three minutes after the equaliser, tapping home from close range off Jadon Sancho’s assist.
Harry Maguire scored an own goal to equalise again in the 72nd minute for Spurs before Ronaldo powered in a header from a Telles corner in the 81st minute for his hat-trick.
The hat-trick was Ronaldo’s second in the Premier League and first since January 2008 against Newcastle. His two trebles were separated by 14 years and 59 days, the longest gap between hat-tricks for a player in Premier League history, according to Opta statistics.
The win took United one point above Arsenal into fourth place but the Gunners have four games in hand.
