THERE is no truth to reports claiming Sunday Oliseh is being considered for the Super Eagles head coach job.
There were reports on Monday that the former captain was on the verge of replacing Austin Eguavoen in the Super Eagles saddle.
Eguavoen left the post in March after failing to lead the team past Ghana in the Qatar 2022 playoffs following a 0-0 draw in Kumasi and a 1-1 draw in Abuja.
Ghana upstaged Nigeria on the away goals rule and Eguavoen as well as his assistants were let go by the Nigeria Football Federation.
However, sources within the NFF are adamant that Oliseh is nowhere near consideration for the job.
“God knows how his name cropped up, but no, nobody has mentioned Oliseh here,” an NFF source said. “It’s a rumour and that’s how it should be taken.”
Oliseh, who won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and 1996 Olympic Games gold as a Nigeria international, was Super Eagles head coach for around nine months between 2015 and 2016.
The fiery, outspoken former Ajax and Juventus midfielder resigned after falling out with the NFF hierarchy, citing unpaid wages and a toxic work environment.
Incidentally, that same NFF board, led by Amaju Pinnick, is still in charge.
Oliseh’s last job as a coach was with the Dutch side Fortuna Sittard, who he left in 2018 under acrimonious circumstances after leading them to the cusp of promotion to the top flight.
