ALEX Iwobi was one of the best players for Everton on Sunday as they pulled off a much-needed victory against Chelsea at Goodison Park.

The Nigeria international started the game in midfield but ended it as a wing-back as Everton clung on to the three points that aided their fight against relegation.

Iwobi had a slight role in the Everton goal as his quick throw-in started things off seconds before Richarlison scored in the 46th minute.

Brazil forward Richarlison was gifted the chance as Cesar Azpilicueta dallied on the ball, allowing him to steal in and finish calmly after a touch from Demarai Gray.

Chelsea had chances to pull level, with Mason Mount hitting both posts with a 20-yard strike before Everton keeper Jordan Pickford brilliantly kept out Azpilicueta’s follow-up shot.

The win moves Everton to within two points of Burnley in 16th place and Leeds in 17th, with Frank Lampard’s side having a game in hand on both.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium also on Sunday, Kelechi Iheanacho scored his fifth Premier League goal of the season but it was a mere consolation.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min both scored to give Tottenham Hotspur a 3-1 victory that boosted their hopes of a top-four Premier League finish.

Kane, who had not scored in his previous five Spurs games, headed in the opener from Son’s corner.

Son fired in the second after being picked out by Dejan Kulusevski, then curled in a brilliant third.

Iheanacho scored with a crisp strike in added time. His fellow Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman was an unused substitute, probably rested for Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final second leg against Roma.

With the win, Spurs moved into fourth place at the expense of Arsenal, who play at West Ham later on Sunday.
