INTER Milan’s Chief Executive Officer Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed reports that the club are in negotiations to secure the return of Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgium striker left Inter last season for Chelsea in a deal worth a record £97.5m, but he has since been agitating for a move back to Italy.
Lukaku struggled at Chelsea — where he was having a second spell having first left in 2014 — scoring just 15 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions last season.
The 29-year-old has hinted that he is keen on a return to Inter Milan, where he won the Serie A title in 2021, and Marotta has now revealed that negotiations are ongoing.
“We’re trying to sign Lukaku and Dybala, it depends on financial situation too,” Marotta told Italian station Radio Rai today.
“We’re not going to announce Romelu Lukaku’s return today. For sure it’s a possibility [to sign Lukaku] but there are things to be resolved. We’ll see.”
Marotta added that Inter Milan have secured two free transfers from Ajax and AS Roma, who have not been officially announced by the club.
“I can confirm we’ve signed André Onana and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a free transfer, both deals are done,” he added.
According to reports in Italy, Inter and Chelsea are still in talks on the loan fee value after €10m plus add-ons was offered yesterday.
Inter are expected to pay Lukaku’s full salary as well as the loan fee after a swap deal fell through.
Chelsea were said to have pushed for a player-swap but Inter refused to include Milan Skriniar, Denzel Dumfries or Alessandro Bastoni.
