THE newly painted portrait of the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife, Duchess of Cambridge, Kate was officially unveiled on Thursday, June 23, 2022.
The portrait was commissioned in 2021 as a gift to Cambridgeshire by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund. It was revealed to the public for the first time at the University of Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum in the heart of Cambridge.
In the portrait, Kate is wearing a metallic emerald dress by The Vampire’s Wife, worn during the couple’s visit to Dublin in March 2020. William is wearing a dark blue suit and a blue tie.
The painting which was done by award-winning British artist, Jamie Coreth was viewed by the couple during a visit to their namesake region of Cambridgeshire, according to reports by People.
“It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture. I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified,” Coreth said.
“As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives. The piece was commissioned as a gift for the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.”
