GOLDEN Eaglets head coach Nduka Ugbade has been named Coach of the Tournament for the WAFU B U-17 Championship held in Cape Coast, Ghana.
Ugbade led the Nigerian team to win the tournament as they defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in Friday’s final at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The Golden Eaglets won all their matches in the competition, beating Togo and hosts Ghana in the group phase before dismissing Cote d’Ivoire in the semi-finals.
Along with Ugbade’s award, five of his players have been included in the official Team of the Tournament.
The goalkeeper as well as three of the four defenders named in the tournament’s best XI are Nigerians, with the fifth Eaglet a forward.
Richard Odoh, the goalkeeper, the goal-scoring left-back Emmanuel Michael, right-back Yahaya Lawal and centre-back Jeremiah Olaleke are the defensive Golden Eaglets in the Team of the Tournament.
Forward Abubakar Idriss Abdullahi completes the Nigerian five in the XI.
The Golden Eaglets, who have won the FIFA U-17 World Cup five times, have qualified for next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria, which will in turn serve as the qualifying tournament for the global event in Peru.
