Anthony Joshua lost his rematch bout to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk tonight in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Usyk won on a split points decision after the pair went the full 12 rounds.

The fight was the second between the Nigerian-Briton and the Ukrainian after their bout last year in London, where Usyk won the heavyweight IBF, WBA and WBO belts from Joshua.

Two judges scored the fight 115-113 and 116-112 for Usyk while the third gave it to Joshua 115-113.

There was an improvement from Joshua on the first fight but the 32-year-old was again expertly defeated by the outstanding Usyk.

As he promised, Joshua showed more guts and aggression, hitting more body shots and attempting to outpunch the clever and elusive Ukrainian.

The early rounds were shared, with Usyk just about edging it but Joshua dominated the ninth round and had the 35-year-old Usyk scrambling around the ring having unleashed hell.

But Usyk showed his true class, storming back in the 10th round and smashing Joshua with a big left hook and continuing to unload from there. He continued to dominate the championship rounds and, ultimately, took a deserved victory.

It was a third defeat in 27 fights for Joshua and a failure to join Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko and Evander Holyfield in becoming a three-time heavyweight champion.

Usyk has taken his professional record to 20 wins from 20 fights.
