The Super Eagles B have a tough task to qualify for the Algeria 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after losing the first leg of their qualifying tie 2-0 to Ghana’s Black Galaxies in Cape Coast tonight.
The Black Galaxies shot into the driving seat in their 7th African Nations Championship final qualifying fixture against Nigeria after a 2-0 win over Super Eagles B at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.
After an evenly-balanced and scoreless first half of few chances, Ghana took the lead early in the second half.
Daniel Barnieh shot the Galaxies ahead from the penalty spot after Beninoise referee Issa Mouhamed awarded them a penalty for a Nigerian infringement in the box.
The Super Eagles fought hard to get level but they were further punished as Seidu Suraj’s shot from close range beat goalkeeper Adeyinka Adewale with four minutes left on the clock.
The result leaves the Super Eagles B with a mountain to climb ahead of the return leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Saturday.
Ghana also put paid to Nigeria’s ambitions of appearing at the Qatar 2022 World Cup as the Black Stars eliminated the Super Eagles on the away goals rule after the first leg ended 0-0 in Kumasi and the return leg 1-1 in Abuja.
