1,000 fans to attend Joshua vs Pulev title fight

THE heavyweight world title fight between Anthony Joshua and Kubrat Pulev will have fans in attendance, promoter Eddie Hearn has announced.

Due to coronavirus guidelines most sporting events have been held behind closed doors to prevent the spread of the disease.

However, the authorities in Britain have relaxed the rules for the fight, allowing 1,000 fans to witness the title bout live at the 12,500-capacity Wembley Arena.

Nigerian-born Briton Joshua, 31, will defend his World Boxing Association, World Boxing Organisation and International Boxing Federation world titles against the 39-year-old Bulgarian Pulev on 12 December.

The world champion will be having his first fight since he defeated Andy Ruir Jr last December.

Joshua will become the first world champion to fight in front of a crowd in Britain since the outbreak of COVID-19  in March.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am to see fans returning to our live boxing events,” Hearn said.

“Whilst the team have done an incredible job over the last 10 months we live and breathe through the energy and atmosphere that a live crowd generates.

“It’s so fitting that they can return for an AJ fight, when through the last few years he has broken all kinds of attendance records in the U.K. and beyond. This is such a positive move for boxing and all sport. Welcome back!”
