Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori have not been included in England’s matchday squad for tonight’s UEFA Nations League match against Germany.

Alexander-Arnold, who missed last year’s European Championships through injury, has played only once for England this year and was an unused substitute in Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Italy.

Tomori, 24, was born in Canada to Nigerian parents and grew up in England.

He was eligible for all three countries but ignored the advances of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, opting for the Three Lions.

He has made only three England appearances since his senior debut in 2019 and was not included in the squad for last year’s European Championships.

Tomori also did not feature against Italy despite featuring in all nine Serie A and UEFA Champions League games for AC Milan this season, starting eight.

Instead, manager Gareth Southgate decided to start Harry Maguire, who has made just three appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United this season.

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen and Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse also miss out of tonight’s clash against Germany scheduled for Wembley Stadium.

However, Brentford striker Ivan Toney is on course to making his England debut tonight at the age of 26 after scoring five goals at the start of the current Premier League campaign.

He received his first England call-up this month but was not included for the Italy game.

Toney has been named in the Three Lions’ 23-man squad to face Germany, but Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish is out through suspension.

England have already been relegated from the elite League A to second-tier League B following a run of five games without a win.
