Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro believes the Nigeria Professional Football League clubs did not get the results their efforts deserved at the weekend in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

All three clubs representing the country were eliminated from the continental competitions on Saturday and yesterday despite having won their first legs a week ago.

Plateau United lost 1-0 to Esperance in Tunis on Saturday to crash out of the Champions League on the away goals rule having won the first leg 2-1 in Abuja just over a week ago.

Kwara United were also knocked out of the Confederation Cup on the same day and in similar circumstances.

The Ilorin club lost out on the away goals rule after a 2-0 defeat in Morocco to holders RS Berkane. Kwara United had won the first leg 3-1 in Lagos.

NPFL champions Rivers United followed suit last night, falling out of the Champions League after a 6-0 pummelling from holders Wydad Athletic Club in Casablanca.

The Nigerians had won 2-1 in Port-Harcourt and lost out 7-2 on aggregate.

“Very proud to attend the CAF Champions League games (Rivers United and Plateau United) this weekend. Kwara United also played for the Confederations Cup,” Peseiro tweeted today.

“Although the results were not what we wanted, congratulations to all three teams. They fought hard and deserved more!”

Rivers United and Plateau United have dropped down to the CAF Confederation Cup and face playoffs to reach the competition’s group stages.
