SPECIAL counsel to Kanu, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, has critized the Federal Government for ‘mishandling’ the case, following the Court of Appeal’s judgment discharging the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, last Thursday.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Umuahia today Ejimakor said, “Nigeria’s disobedience of a 2018 decision of a continental tribunal on Kanu was the first ‘mishandling’.”

In the statement, Ejimakor added that “the extraordinary rendition was the second while putting Kanu on trial was the third.

“Disobeying the United Nations was the fourth and the likelihood of disobeying the judgment of the Court of Appeal will be the fifth”.

Ejimakor, therefore, called on “Nigerians of means and influence, and the international community to intervene in persuading Nigeria to promptly comply with the court order which discharged Kanu from all the criminal charges pending against him”.

Speaking on the issue, the former US ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, warned in a tweet, that for the sake of the country’s safety and security, Nigeria cannot afford any more “mishandling” of the issue.

Recall that the IPOB leader was discharged on Thursday, October 13 after the Abuja Appeal Court acquitted him of all counts.

According to the Attorney General of the Federation Abubarkar Malami, he stated that Kanu was only discharged from the case, not acquitted raising questions about the FG’s willingness to free Kanu.
