TARABA: Gunmen kidnap lawmaker as security operatives arrive late

GUNMEN suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the member representing Nguroje State Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Bashir Mohammed

Mohammed, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Information in the state, was said to have been abducted in the early hours of today.

Speaking about the incident to journalists, one of the aides to the lawmaker said his boss was kidnapped around 1am in his house in Jalingo, the state capital.

He noted that the lawmaker alerted security operatives, hours before he was kidnapped when he observed suspicious movement around his house.

The aide said Mohammed had been abducted before the arrival of the security operatives.

“They invaded the house around 12am and he (Mohammed) called the police immediately on sensing danger but it took the police over an hour to arrive.

“The gunmen, who shot sporadically, operated in the area for over an hour before taking him to custody at about 1am,” the aide said.

Kidnappers have always made politicians, particularly members of the State Assembly, their targets.

In 2017, Hosea Ibi representing Takum 1 constituency was kidnapped and subsequently killed by his abductors.
