KWARA: EFCC arrests driver for alleged illegal mining

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ilorin Zonal Command today filed charges against truck driver Kasimu Bawa, 46, for offenses related to alleged illegal mining and unlawful possession of minerals.

“Mining without license is a criminal offence and an act of economic sabotage.

“Kasimu was prosecuted on an amended one count before Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin.

“He was the driver of the truck conveying the minerals allegedly purchased without license by the Chinese National, Dang Deng, who had been convicted and sentenced to five years on October 19, 2022 by same court,” the commission said in a release via its Facebook page.

The defendant on September 9, 2022, was taken into custody by the EFCC at Share along Tsaragi Road in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State with a truck full of 25 tons of suspected illicit minerals valued at N2.4 million.
