THE executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje, has raised concern about the country’s neglect of its technical colleges.
He stated that technical institutions, which were intended to be important entry points for polytechnics, are being shut down while the equipment rots away.
Professor Bugaje then demanded that technical colleges all throughout the nation be redesigned and reinvented in order to promote polytechnic education and the development of young people’s talents.
On Wednesday, Bugaje gave a speech at the Kaduna workshop reviewing the curriculum for the 10 National Technical Certificates (NTC) and Advanced National Technical Certificates (ANTC).
He emphasized the need to provide suitable equipment, infrastructure, and teachers training.
He argued that those who have studied sociology and Nigerian languages, teaching in technical institutions, be removed from the schools and they should be replaced by qualified individuals.
