THE Delta state governor and vice presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, states that the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has highlighted combating poverty and unemployment as a panacea to end insecurity in the nation.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, after attending a service at St. James Anglican Church, Asokoro, Okowa said there was so much poverty and unemployment in the country, adding that “definitely you must deal with all these before; you cannot deal with insecurity in full.”
Okowa promised that if Atiku Abubakar was elected, his administration would be dedicated to creating a climate in which Nigerians could go about their everyday lives without worrying about being harassed or attacked.
“We have to recreate hope for Nigerians; that is what we stand for. The economy will definitely have to be revived. We have spoken about the devolution of power to the states because when all states are competing among themselves and trying to do their best for their people, all parts of this country will begin to grow together.
“The federal government will continue to support the states, but they definitely need resources to develop themselves; the local governments need more resources.
“We must give special attention to education; we must begin to manage our populations and provide health for the people,” he said.
