Ghana will be going into the Qatar 2022 World Cup brimming with confidence after they defeated Switzerland 2-0 today in a preparatory friendly match in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The World Cup kicks off on Sunday in Doha and will end on December 18.
The Black Stars, who eliminated Nigeria from the World Cup race, defeated the Europeans with second-half goals from Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo.
After a goalless first half in which the Black Stars had chances to take the lead, the Africans found the breakthrough midway into the second period.
Southampton defender Salisu headed Ghana into the lead in the 69th minute with his first-ever goal for his country.
Ghana continued to be on the front foot and were rewarded five minutes later when Bristol City forward Semenyo struck with also his first Black Stars goal.
The Swiss are ranked 15th by FIFA, 46 places above Ghana, and they were tipped to beat the West Africans.
Ghana are in Group H in Qatar with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea. The Black Stars begin their campaign against Portugal next Thursday.
Switzerland have Cameroon, Brazil and Serbia to contend with in Group G.
