Delta is obliterating the opposition at the National Sports Festival the state is hosting in its capital city of Asaba.

The ‘Nigerian Olympics’ began in Asaba on November 28 and will end on Saturday with the closing ceremony at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

As at the official count last night, Delta State had won 184 medals, 101 of them gold.

The state has an additional 48 silver and 35 bronze medals.

Remarkably, the state second in the medal table, Edo, does not even have up to 100 medals in total.

Edo has 16 gold, 25 silver and 42 bronze.

Another South South state, Bayelsa, is third with 16 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze medals.

South West states, Ogun and Oyo, complete the top five with 11 and nine gold medals respectively.

Imo, Abia, Lagos, Rivers and Kano make up the top 10, with 19 states winning at least one gold medal.

Thirty-four states have won at least one medal, leaving only Adamawa, Gombe and Zamfara medalless.

Delta State topped the final medal table at the last National Sports Festival in 2021 with 184 gold medals, with host Edo State coming second with 129 gold.
