Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion have sacked their manager Slaven Bilic, citing poor results.
The Baggies pulled off one of the surprise results of the Premier League season on Tuesday night by holding star-studded Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium, but that was apparently not enough to keep Bilic in his job.
“West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with Head Coach Slaven Bilić,” the club announced in an official statement on Wednesday.
Assistant Coaches, Dean Računica and Danilo Butorović, and First Team Coach Julian Dicks have also left the club with immediate effect.”
The Baggies are currently 19th in the Premier League table with seven points from 13 fixtures.
“Bilic helped West Brom gain promotion from the Championship last season but he did not get the funds to buy players to compete at the elite level. The club referenced his initial success in their statement but did not provide further clarification for why they sacked Bilic.
“Albion would like to thank Slaven and his coaching staff for their efforts in achieving promotion last season and wishes them all well in the future,” West Brom added.
“The club will make no further comment at this time.”
Reports in various British outlets on Wednesday afternoon claimed that veteran Sam Allardyce was in line to replace Bilic.Allardyce, 67, has handled several clubs in the Premier League and had a brief spell as England manager. Some of Allardyce’s former clubs include Bolton Wanderers, West Ham, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Everton.
