LEICESTER City manager Brendan Rodgers has offered reasons for Wilfred Ndidi’s struggles to get playing time in recent weeks.
The Super Eagles midfielder has had to endure time on the bench in recent games after being a regular starter for years at Leicester City.
Ndidi has recovered after battling with injuries but did not start any of Leicester’s last three Premier League fixtures, including Monday’s 3-0 home defeat to Newcastle United, in which he came on for the final 18 minutes.
“We’ve got a really busy schedule in January,” Rodgers said as he previewed Friday night’s trip to Liverpool.
“I had a good sit-down with him and really honest conversation and he knows what he’s been at in terms of the level when I first came in here for a couple of years.
“He has struggled with a number of injuries but it’s just a case of sometimes coming away from the team and working on the training field and just resetting everything.
“I can see that in training that has allowed him to have that freshness back in his game so there’s no doubt over the coming weeks he will be ready to start,” he added.
The 26-year-old Nigeria international, who joined the Foxes in January 2017 from Genk, has missed five Premier League games this season through injury.
He started seven of the eight league games he was available for, but has either been an unused substitute or brought on in the second half in the last four.
