ALEX Iwobi was stretchered off tonight after getting injured during Everton’s FA Cup third round clash at Old Trafford.

The Nigeria international sustained an ankle injury after a tackle from Tyler Malacia as Manchester United won 3-1.

Iwobi was one of Everton’s best players and he was leading a breakaway five minutes into the second half when Malacia tackled him.

The Dutchman got the ball but the follow through left his studs planted in the Super Eagles midfielder’s right ankle, and Iwobi needed some on-field treatment before he was taken off on a stretcher.

The Nigerian will be a big miss for Frank Lampard’s side having started all their 18 Premier League games this season, registering one goal and five assists from central midfield.

The clash was finely poised at 1-1 when Iwobi got injured, but United added two goals to become the first team to advance to the FA Cup fourth round this season.

Antony gave United an early lead in the fourth minute, touching home from point-blank range from Marcus Rashford’s low cross.

Everton then stunned their hosts by striking back 10 minutes later, Conor Coady tapping into an empty net after a harmless ball squeezed through David de Gea’s legs.

Coady was involved again as United regained their lead, inadvertently turning the ball into his own net from Rashford’s cutback moments after Iwobi was taken off injured.

Everton thought they had equalised again when substitute Dominic Calvin-Lewin chested home, but there was offside in the build-up and the goal was disallowed.

United looked vulnerable as Everton piled forward in search of the equaliser but the tie was settled in stoppage time when Rashford scored from the penalty spot after Alejandro Garnacho was fouled in the Everton box.

With his goal, Rashford became the first Manchester United player to score in seven consecutive home appearances in all competitions since Wayne Rooney between February and April 2012, according to Opta statistics.
