CHELSEA are on the verge of beating Arsenal to the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhailo Mudryk, the Ukrainian club have announced.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian has been strongly linked with Arsenal in recent weeks, but reports emerged tonight that Chelsea met with Shakhtar Donetsk officials in Poland and agreed a deal.
The Ukrainian club then took to social media to confirm that Chelsea were indeed close to beating their London rivals to the skillful and prolific forward.
“FC Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov and Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali discussed Mykhailo Mudryk’s transfer to Chelsea FC today,” Shakhtar Donetsk tweeted.
“Parties are very close to agree on player’s transfer to the club.”
The deal is believed to cost Chelsea €100 million: a guaranteed €70m in transfer fee and €30m in add-ons.
Arsenal were reportedly offering a total package of around €80m.
Mudryk has been outstanding for Shakhtar Donetsk in recent months and he was voted the club’s Player of the Year for 2022.
The Shakhtar Donetsk academy product has made 18 goal contributions in 18 appearances in the Ukrainian Premier Liga and the UEFA Champions League this season: 10 goals and eight assists.
