LIVERPOOL and Chelsea could not break the deadlock today, with their Premier League encounter ending in a 0-0 draw at Anfield.
The game was Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s 1,000th as a manager but it was a forgettable and disappointing showing by both sides.
The two sides, two of the most successful clubs in England, are currently not in the reckoning for a top four finish, and the dour game showcased their struggles.
In a match of painfully few chances and little excitement, Chelsea had an early Kai Havertz goal ruled out for offside by VAR.
After a largely lifeless first half, Chelsea manager Graham Potter introduced his new £89m signing Mykhailo Mudryk, who brought some spark into the game with his pace and trickery.
There were not many scoring opportunities but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson saved well from another new Chelsea signing, defender Benoit Badiashile.
Liverpool’s own £45m recruit Cody Gakpo had another quiet game, although he forced one save from Kepa Arrizabalaga.
With the result, Liverpool and Chelsea remain level on points, separated by goal difference.
Liverpool are eighth and Chelsea 10th, both nine points adrift of fourth-placed Newcastle United.
