ARSENAL bagged a late winner tonight to beat Manchester United 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium in one of the best games in the Premier League this season.
The Gunners went behind, took the lead and conceded an equaliser before a 90th minute Eddie Nketiah strike settled the spectacle in favour of the hosts.
With the win, Arsenal grew their lead over second-placed Manchester City to five points. The Gunners have to a game in hand.
Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez scored for United while Nketiah grabbed a brace and Bukayo Saka struck a spectacular goal.
United’s man of the moment Rashford gave them the lead in the 17th minute with a superb right-foot strike from 25 yards after skipping past Thomas Partey.
The England forward has now scored nine goals in all competitions since the Qatar 2022 World Cup finished, the most of any player in Europe’s big five leagues, according to Opta statistics.
Arsenal responded quickly to the deficit and were level seven minutes later when Granit Xhaka’s cross was met by a header from Nketiah, who got in ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the far post.
The brilliant Saka put Arsenal in front with a superb angled drive eight minutes after the break but United were back level within six minutes, with Martinez heading his first goal for the club after goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could not hold a corner.
Arsenal were the more positive side after the equaliser and looked the more likely winners in the closing stages as United sat deep and invited pressure.
Saka hit the post and Nketiah was denied by David de Gea’s outstanding save before the dramatic winning goal arrived.
The Gunners’ pressure bore fruit when Nketiah turned the ball in from close range, the in-form striker found to be just onside after VAR checks.
Nketiah, who is filling in for the injured Gabriel Jesus, is the first Arsenal player to score two goals in a Premier League fixture against United since Alexis Sanchez in October 2015.
United are still fourth, level on points with third-placed Newcastle United and six points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
