THE State Police Command has arrested six alleged kidnappers who have terrorised the Lafia Local Government Area’s residents in Nasarawa state.
Maiyaki Baba, the state’s commissioner of police, revealed this to reporters today at the command’s headquarters in Lafia as he paraded 28 suspected offenders who had been detained in January 2023 for perpetrating various crimes around the state’s 13 LGAs.
He stated that the six suspected kidnappers, who had been on the police’s watch list, had been apprehended in Lafia LGA’s Kiguna Village following meticulous efforts by command officers.
He said, “On January 12, 2023 at about 4:50pm, acting based on a tip off, police operatives attached to Assakio Division raided a suspected kidnappers hide out located at Kiguna Village, Lafia East Development Area, where the following suspects were arrested namely: Adamu Mohammed, 20 years, Musa Ibrahim aka IBB, 20years, Bashiru Anaruwa, 19 years and Hamisu Tanko, 20 years, all of Kiguna Village.
“One locally fabricated AK 47 rifle was recovered from the suspects as exhibit.
“A follow up investigation by the command’s anti-kidnapping unit, led to the arrest of two more suspects namely: Salisu Abdullahi Bunu, 30 years, and Abdullahi Haruna, 35 years, where one locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects as exhibit.
“The suspects have confessed to be the syndicate terrorising Assakio-Sabon Gida road, where they kidnap people for ransom.”
The CP urged the state citizens to continue providing the police with beneficial information that would aid in their efforts to end crime in the state while admonishing all criminal elements to flee the state without further delay.
“I want to assert that the state command under my leadership will not relent but up its antics to audaciously clamp down on criminals until they are subjugated,” he added.
