REAL Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni will be competing with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach award.
FIFA released the finalists for both the men’s and women’s coaches today ahead of the awards scheduled for February 27 in Paris, France.
Ancelotti led Real Madrid to the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles last year, making him the most successful coach in the big European leagues.
On his part, Scaloni steered Argentina to the Qatar 2002 World Cup title, the country’s first since 1986, six months after he led them to the inaugural Finalissima trophy, which was contested between South American and European champions.
Guardiola is on the final short courtesy of his success with Manchester City in the 2021/2022 Premier League.
In the women’s category, the final three nominees are Sonia Bompastor, who led Olympique Lyonnais to regain the UEFA Women’s Champions League title last year, and Sarina Wiegman, the European Championships-winning England head coach, as well as Pia Sundhage of Brazil.
“These two awards are given to the outstanding coaches in women’s and men’s football as voted for by an international jury respectively comprising the current coaches of all women’s/men’s national teams (one per team), the current captains of all women’s/men’s national teams (one per team), one specialist journalist from each territory represented by a national team and fans registered on FIFA.com,” the world governing body explained.
