JORGINHO has revealed that he played a part in the arrival of Victor Osimhen at Napoli.
Nigeria international Osimhen joined the Italian side in the summer of 2020 for a club record €80 million from Lille, and he has been well worth the big transfer fee.
The Super Eagles striker is currently the top scorer in Serie A with 18 goals from 19 appearances as Napoli close in on their first Scudetto since 1990.
Italy midfielder Jorginho, who is now with Arsenal, played for Napoli from 2014 to 2018 before joining Chelsea.
The 31-year-old Euro 2020 champion with Italy is impressed by Napoli’s form this season and shared how he was involved in the move for their Nigerian talisman.
“They are doing incredible things, honestly, I didn’t know the guy playing on the wing [ Kvaratskhelia],” Jorginho told DAZN.
“I knew Osimhen. Giuntoli called me before signing him and I told him to sign him straight away, he is very promising and is doing really well. They [Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia] are flying and everything is going well. There is winning energy.”
Jorginho, who won the UEFA Champions League title with Chelsea in 2021, believes Napoli will do well in this season’s edition as they get set to face Eintracht Frankfurt tonight in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
The Brazil-born Italian was part of the Napoli side that earned 91 points in the 2017/2018 campaign but failed to win the title, with Juventus edging ahead to emerge as Serie A champions with 95 points.
