SUPER Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has insisted that he will always make himself available to the team whenever he is called up.
The Sivasspor forward is the most capped Nigeria international in history with 105 senior appearances, but his inclusion in the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Guinea-Bissau raised some eyebrows.
The 30-year-old, who made his Super Eagles debut in 2010 and was in the squad that won Nigeria’s last AFCON title in 2013, says he is not bothered about voices of opposition to his inclusion in the 23-man squad of head coach Jose Peseiro.
“We know our country. No matter what, whoever they call, they have to talk. I don’t have to listen to anyone,” Musa said during a press conference ahead of today’s match when asked when he would retire from international football.
“I’m the one doing my job, but if my body wants me to stop, I’ll stop.”
Musa has made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Turkish Super Lig side this term but is yet to register a goal or assist.
Still, the former Leicester City star believes he deserves his place in the Super Eagles squad.
He added: “I’m playing with my club and have a good contract, so why does anyone want me to resign from the national team?
“If the coach doesn’t want to call me up anymore then I’ll stop coming. But if the coach invites me I’ll always honour the invitation. I don’t listen to anyone.
“This is what I’m playing and know how to play.
“I give my best always when I’m called to the national team from day one and if the coach doesn’t call me anymore, then that’s fine.”
Musa has not started a Super Eagles match since a 2-0 win away to Central African Republic in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers in October 2021.
He has come off the bench in his last five appearances and been an unused substitute in five of his last 10 involvements with the Super Eagles.
