EDO: Don’t attempt to overturn Obaseki’s victory through court — Shaibu warns Oshiomhole

DEPUTY Governor, Philip Shaibu has asked a former Governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole to dispense with the idea of bringing his candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu to power through the backdoor by influencing the judiciary.

Shaibu warned his former mentor not to subvert the will of the people by using his influence to overturn the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki at the September 2020 governorship election at the court.

The deputy governor said this against the background of what happened in Imo State where Hope Uzodinma, who came third in the election proper, was declared winner by court after legal tussle that dogged the victory of Emeka Ihedioha.

He noted that Oshiomhole was instrumental in the Supreme Court victory of Ihedioha and alleged that the former Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress would stop at nothing to replicate the situation in Edo.

Speaking during an empowerment programme for Afemai Youths in Ogbona and Jattu respectively at the weekend, Shaibu said, “The Nigeria Judiciary is known to be among the best in the world, therefore, Oshiomhole’s utterance is a mere crying of a beaten baby and he must be made aware that Edo is not Imo State.

“Now that he has vowed to test the collective will of the good people of Edo State by attempting to subvert their will through a questionable judicial arrangement, he will obviously not be tolerated by the managers of our judiciary.

“The victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki is a victory for Nigeria’s democracy and it was the first election in Nigeria where all political parties came together to vote for one candidate for the overall development of the state.”
